Solutions Through the Ages: An AgeSmarter Guide for Minimally Invasive Treatments

How to have the BEST skin of your life in 2025!

Your skin is an evolving canvas, reflecting your age, lifestyle, and care habits. At each stage of life, your skin has unique needs. Understanding these can help you maintain a radiant and youthful appearance at every age and stage of life. Let’s explore the best skin care and aesthetic treatments for every age group to address common concerns and get your best skin in 2025.

Your 20's: Prevention is Key

Your 20's are a time of vibrant, youthful skin with minimal signs of aging. However, the habits you build now set the foundation for decades ahead. Key concerns during this time may include acne, uneven texture, and, depending on lifestyle, the first signs of sun damage.

Solutions: Start with Establishing Good Habits

  1. Daily SPF: To prevent premature aging.  ‘SPF’ stands for “sun protection factor”.  The SPF number indicates how much longer it would take for UVB rays to redden your skin when using the product compared to no protection. For example, an SPF 30 means it would take 30 times longer to burn with the sunscreen than without it, (assuming proper application).  Dermatologists recommend a minimum of SPF 30 to be applied prior to sun exposure and to be reapplied every 2 hours.

  2. Establish a regular skin hygiene routine, including double (yes twice) cleansing & moisturizing daily and nightly (am/pm).  Tip for acne management: Using skincare products that reduce sebum will also help minimize breakouts. I recommend Z.O. Acne Treatment Oil Control Pads.

  3. Professional Treatments: In your 20’s, facial acne can continue to be an issue due to hormonal changes, poor hygiene, skin genetics, and/or life stress. Professional exfoliation treatments will help reduce the dead skin cells that build up on the surface of the skin which can lead to acne. Using skincare products that reduce sebum will also help minimize acne breakouts.

  4. Professional product recommendations: Z.O. Skinhealth skincare has an excellent acne clearing program which includes the Complexion Clearing Masque. It purifies pores and absorbs excess surface oil. Consult with our professional skincare therapists today.

Your 30's: Target Early Aging

In your 30s, you will notice fine lines, dullness, and changes in skin elasticity as collagen production begins to decline. It is known that up to 2% of our natural collagen starts to decline after age 30.  Lines around the eyes are most noticeable.  Hormonal shifts and life stress may lead to adult acne. Hormonal changes from pregnancy can also lead to melasma (discoloration in the skin).  Lifestyle (sun exposure, diet, exercise) plays a huge factor in how your skin ages.

Solutions: Up-level At-Home Care & Professional Treatments

  1. Dietary intake of the following will help keep this age group from losing collagen. Your diet, from a longevity standpoint, should consist of at least 30 varieties of fruit and vegetables per week. Berries (blueberries, strawberries, etc.) are known to have many benefits in contributing to overall health with the added benefit of glowing skin. Essential Fatty acids found in fatty fish (salmon) as well as high-fat Greek Yogurt (plain with no sugar), and avocados are important for a well-balanced meal. And most importantly, high-quality protein found in chicken, beef, fish, and legumes, is needed to build healthy skin, muscle, and bone.

  2. At-Home Skincare should include actives such as retinol, antioxidants, and exfoliating enzymes. We like the “A.C.E. Rule”:

    • Vitamin A is found in retinol.  This is an excellent ingredient for resurfacing skin cells and allowing new cells to surface.   Retinol can be difficult to use due to side effects such as redness and flaking.  This can be mitigated in the application process: If you are new to using retinol, you may try a technique known as the “retinol sandwich” to reduce unwanted side effects: Apply a dime size of retinol product on clean skin AFTER the moisturizer.  This decreases direct contact on the skin and controls the redness or flaking that is a common side effect.

    • Vitamin C is a long-proven active antioxidant that helps to repair and prevent skin cell damage from free radicals. Because vitamin C is a very unstable molecule, it is important to keep the product from being exposed to air and water. For best results, apply a few drops of liquid vitamin C on clean, dry skin before moisturizing. We have been using Vivier Vitamin C Serums for over 20 years with great results for all skin types

    • Exfoliation: If you want glowing, hydrated, healthy skin, exfoliation is a necessary step in your skincare regime. Try Vivier AHA/BHA moisturizer with exfoliating properties from alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Exfoliation in the form of a scrub during the cleansing process is an additional strategy to reduce dead skin cells from building and will allow for a healthy glow. Try Z.O. Skinhealth Exfoliating Polish.

  3. Professional Treatments:

    • Botox/Dysport Neuromodulator Treatments: Botox/Dysport Neuromodulator Treatments: This is a professional treatment option to reduce facial lines caused by muscle movement around the eyes. Having Botox 2 or 3 times per year maintains a smooth appearance and prevents further facial lines from occurring with age. If you are new to Botox, you may want to try a small area, such as the frown lines in between the brows (known as the “11’s” to see how this treatment will work for you.  For best results, we recommend you avoid having this injectable treatment within 2 weeks of vaccinations or when using antibiotics.  Book a consultation to see if Botox is an appropriate treatment for you.

    • Microneedling, known as C.I.T. or collagen induction therapy, is effective in producing many skin benefits. Microneedling with our DP4 Pen provides a smoother, more comfortable professional treatment, correcting skin issues such as acne, scarring, skin laxity, pigmentation, and sun damage.  The added benefit to microneedling is the serum application immediately post-treatment. We use serums that help revitalize the skin cells, encourage collagen production, and accelerate healing.

Your 40's: Replenish and Restore

As you enter your 40s, deeper lines, volume loss, and skin laxity become more noticeable. For women, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can exacerbate dryness and sensitivity. It’s common to see the development of skin issues such as rosacea and rosacea-acne, due to estrogen imbalances coupled with life stress.

Solutions: Advanced Skincare combined with Professional In-Clinic Treatments.

  1. The 40’s is a stage where women and men respond well to treatments such as Botox and Fillers. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are used to improve facial contours and replace volume loss.  A small amount of filler can create a positive impact on one’s facial appearance when placed in the hands of a professionally trained and experienced cosmetic injector.

  2. At-Home Skin Care: Growth Factor serums and peptides such as those found in Z.O. Skinhealth Growth Factor Serum improves skin repair and elasticity.  Vivier Vitamin C E with Peptide Serum is a daily skincare essential for this age group

  3. RF-Microneedling with SylfirmX (pronounced: sil-firm x) is an energy device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. This combination of radiofrequency heat with microneedling accelerates the efficiency of results, and because SylfirmX has a special “non-insulated needle” technology, there is no damage to the surface of the skin and less discomfort. Serums designed to increase collagen production and healing, such as exosomes, are best applied post-treatment to enhance results and lessen downtime.

  4. The Glass Skin Facial is a treatment utilizing 24-karat gold micro-needles with a solution combining Botox with active serums that can improve hydration, treat blemishes and rosacea, reduce acne, and improve skin luster. We combine Botox or Dysport with NCTF serum (a polyrevitalizing antioxidant serum) to minimize large pores, achieve a smoother texture, and improve hydration in the skin.

  5. Supplementation:

    • Diet and supplementation are essential to set yourself up for successful treatment outcomes. Much of what is done in-clinic requires a healthy response from skin cells. Some supplements that are well researched to have good bioavailability and absorb well in our bodies are: Omega 3’s, Vitamin D3, K2, Magnesium, Hydrolyzed Collagen, and Nuchido TIME+

    • We recommend and carry Nuchido TIME+ which boosts cellular NAD levels to improve cellular function and reduce inflammation. Learn more about Nuchido here.

Your 50's and Beyond: Nourish and Revitalize

During your 50s and beyond, skin concerns may include pronounced wrinkles, sagging, and a loss of radiance. For women, the post – menopausal stage accelerates changes in skin texture, loss of elasticity, and hydration. Cellular energy is lessened with age which affects how skin responds to in-clinic treatments that require controlled injury such as microneedling.

Solutions: Focus on Collagen

  1. It is time to focus on At-Home Products that nourish the skin cells that are starving for hydration. Incorporate a gentle, hydrating cleanser such as the Z.O. Skinhealth Hydrating Cleanser. Products with peptides, antioxidants, retinol, growth factors, and of course, SPF, are essential during this stage of life. Medical-grade skincare products have been clinically tested to bring visible and palpable results to your at-home skincare routine.  A staple product that has been clinically proven to support aging skin is the Vivier Vitamin C & E Peptide Serum. Another important staple through all stages of your skin health is retinol.  Vivier Retinol creams are designed to reduce the side effects of redness and flaking while working to resurface the skin cells.  The 50’s and beyond is an excellent time to incorporate advanced skincare such as Vivier Grenzcine Face Cream and Grenzcine Eye Serum

  2. Collagen Boosting Treatments: are recommended for this age group to help restore and revitalize skin cells.

    • Sculptra Injectables have been used for over 25 years to induce collagen stimulation in the dermis.  This treatment helps improve facial contours while increasing collagen production in the skin.  Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator containing P.L.L.A. (poly-L-lactic acid). biodegradable substance that has been used for decades in dissolvable stitches for wound management. When PLLA is injected into the deeper layers of your skin, it helps stimulate your skin’s own collagen production

    • InstaLift Threads are made of a biocompatible ingredient called P.L.L.A. or poly L-lactic acid. This is the only Health Canada Approved thread lifting procedure to reposition mid to lower face fat compartments and is known to have lasting effects of up to 2 years.

    • SylfirmX RF-Microneedling causes controlled energy and injury to varying skin depths, including the sensitive eyelid area to improve skin cell regeneration. The application of exosomes immediately post-treatment accelerates results and reduces downtime.

Aging gracefully isn’t just about external treatments; it’s about supporting your skin from the inside out. Combining clinical treatments with a balanced lifestyle, proper hydration, a nutritious diet, and stress management can amplify your results.

We offer personalized consultations to help you navigate the best options for your age and unique skin needs. There is no “cookie-cutter” solution to aesthetic treatments. A personal consultation to customize your in-clinic treatments and at-home care, is key to your individual journey.

I believe we should love the way we look and feel at any age.
