Surgical Results WITHOUT Surgery!

A comparison of two leading cosmetic fillers

“You can never have too much attractiveness”  – Dr. Mauricio de Maio, Plastic Surgeon

There has never been a better time to age. The evolution of filler technology has made it possible to specifically tailor treatment approaches to the individual needs of each client.

Once again, my team and I had the privilege of attending an educational session with world-renowned plastic surgeon, Mauricio de Maio.  His superior technique creates a “wow” before and after effect.  His motto: surgical results without surgical down time.

No wonder, soft tissue augmentation is quickly becoming the number one most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in North America.  You can literally get a face-lift within an hour and not have to take time off work!

What Filler is best for you?

To simplify, I like to categorize candidates into 3 compartments:

Type One: The person who has healthy looking skin, but has developed volume loss around the temples and hollows around the eyes and mouth that make them appear older and tired.

Type Two: The person who has been enjoying the sun all their lives and has prematurely aged skin. They have lots of facial wrinkles, lines and sagging around the jaw line, which emphasizes an aged appearance.

Type Three: The person who is younger (20’s, 30’s) and has little signs of aging, but would like to enhance the lips, reshape the chin, and lift the brows.

Each one of these categories can best be served with different types of fillers that when used with proper technique, is extremely beneficial in restoring a youthful, less tired, and more attractive appearance. Let’s go through each category and how filler can help benefit you!

Type One: Restore volume loss around temples, eyes, and mouth

A standard favourite in the line of dermal fillers is Juvederm, made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance in the skin that helps retain moisture and volume. How much volume loss a person has, will determine how much Juvederm should be used to reach optimal results. (By the way, De Maio’s Wow Effect is based on the use of up to 10-14 mL’s of Juvederm filler).  Results are immediate and can restore a youthful appearance in an instant. The most common side effects are redness at the injection site, a little swelling, and possibly bruising.

A serious adverse event that can happen with any sharp needle injection is a “vascular occlusion”, or blockage of the circulation of arterial blood. This is a very serious event, however, extremely rare, and preventable with proper technique. Hence, emphasizing the importance of only seeing an experienced clinical injector and always-avoiding those basement Botox Parties!

Though Juvederm is considered long lasting with results of up to a year or more, there are some candidates with very high metabolism, who wear down their Juvederm too quickly.

Introducing a product called Sculptra, AKA the “celebrities’ secret sauce”.

Sculptra is “Poly L-lactic Acid” (PLLA), a synthetic, biocompatible, biodegradable polymer injectable that provides a natural looking restoration of lost facial volume. Sculptra users see a progression of improvement in facial contour over time and are required to complete a series of three treatment sessions at a 4 to 6 week interval.  The over all result is they just look better but it’s not obvious what they did. Sculptra is a new wave of filler as not only does it last much longer but it provides the most natural looking results – nobody will ever believe you had a treatment done!

Type Two – Make this face great again!

Sculptra is even more appreciated in the Type Two Individual with prematurely aged, wrinkled and saggy skin.  Because it stimulates your body’s own collagen production creating natural looking results that can last for years, Sculptra is an excellent treatment option.

Adverse effects with Sculptra is the formation of non-visible papules or nodules (lumps), however, this is technique dependent and can be prevented. If a lump in the treatment site does occur, it will eventually resolve and disappear over time.

Type Three – Lip Obsession

This Individual is best treated with HA fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane.  Sculptra is not used in areas such as lips.  HA is still the filler of choice for soft, natural looking lip enhancements.

Here are some great examples of before and after photos done with Sculptra and Juvederm!

Bring out your INNER GODDESS! One of our favourite books on women’s health (and health = beauty) is “Goddesses Never Age” by Dr. Christiane Northrup. We LOVE how she explains how to be AGE-LESS! How you get older depends on your attitude not your genes! Check it out! http://amzn.to/2lFIlAu
